What separates it is lunch. The taverna on the rocks above the inlet is one of the island’s best known, and a good part of the traffic to Mandrakia is people coming to eat rather than to look.
What the visit is
Short and simple. Walk down to the water, look along the row of syrmata, watch boats come in and out of the inlet, and swim off the rocks if the sea is calm. There is no beach to speak of.
Half an hour covers it, unless you are eating, in which case it is two hours and the right way to spend them.
Swimming
Off flat rock into deep clear water, with ladders in places. The inlet is sheltered from most directions, but it is open to the north, so a strong meltemi puts swell straight into it.
Water shoes help. There is no shade beyond the rock and no facilities apart from the taverna.
Where it fits

Practical notes
- Book the taverna in season, or arrive early.
- Parking is limited above the hamlet, and the last stretch of road is narrow.
- It is residential and working: boats, nets and doorways belong to people.
