It is what people expect Klima to be, and it is the one that also works as a swim.
The difference from Klima
Klima is the larger and more photographed row, and it has almost no beach: you look at it, you swim off a thin strip of shingle, you leave. Firopotamos is smaller, has a proper little bay with sand and shingle you can spend an afternoon on, and is sheltered enough for easy swimming.
If you only have time for one syrmata village and want to swim, come here. If you want the photograph, go to Klima in the late afternoon.
What is there
- The syrmata around the bay, still in use, with the usual rule: they are homes and workplaces, not props.
- A small beach, shaded in part by the cliff at certain hours.
- A chapel on the rock above the bay and the ruins of a small fortification.
- Nothing else: no taverna guaranteed open, no shop, no facilities. Bring water.
Getting there
Firopotamos is reached by a road north from the Plaka and Triovasalos cluster, the last stretch of which is steep and narrow with limited parking above the hamlet.
Combine it with Plaka, Klima and Mandrakia in one loop of the north coast, which is the standard non-beach half day on Milos and is set out on our things to do in Milos page.

Common questions
What is Firopotamos?
A small fishing hamlet on the north coast of Milos with syrmata boat garages, a sheltered bay with a beach, and a chapel on the headland.
Can you swim at Firopotamos?
Yes. It has a small sheltered beach and calm water, which is the main difference from Klima.
Is Firopotamos better than Klima?
For swimming and quiet, yes. For the classic painted-doors photograph, Klima is the larger and more striking row.
Are there facilities at Firopotamos?
Essentially none. Bring water and food, and do not count on anything being open.
How do you get to Firopotamos?
By a steep narrow road north from the Plaka and Triovasalos villages, with limited parking above the hamlet.
