What to expect
Bring what you need, because there is nothing there. Water, a hat or an umbrella, food, and a bag to take your rubbish away.
The beach faces north, which means it catches the meltemi. On a windy day it is choppy and blown; on a calm day the water is clear and the setting is as good as anything on the island.
The taverna above it
The hamlet above the beach holds one of the island’s best-known tavernas, a day-only kitchen with no electricity, no reservations and a queue that is part of the experience. It is covered on our where to eat in Mykonos page.
That combination, an unimproved beach and a taverna that refuses to modernise, is why people who dislike modern Mykonos still come here.
Getting there
By road to the north coast, then a short walk down a path from the parking area above. Parking is limited and informal; buses do not serve it usefully.
It is a deliberate trip rather than somewhere you pass, which is part of why it stays quiet even in August.
Who it suits
Good for: people who want a beach with nothing on it, and are equipped for that.
Less good for: anyone who wants shade they have not carried, food within reach, or calm water on a windy day. For those, Ornos or Platis Gialos are the answer.
