Mykonos

Where to eat in Mykonos

Mykonos is the most expensive island in Greece to eat on, and pretending otherwise helps nobody. What the prices buy varies wildly, which is exactly why this page leans on ratings from people who actually paid them: the island holds both the most cynical tourist menus in the Cyclades and some of its most loved tables, often a street apart.

The Town lanes hold the real spread. Mykonos Town is where the island’s dining actually lives - ouzeris by the old port, courtyard tavernas in the back lanes, seafood houses on the small squares. The pattern that repays attention: the places a lane or two off the postcard routes are where the ratings concentrate.

Little Venice sells the sunset. The tables under the windmill view are the most photographed dinner on the island, and the premium is for the position - the same trade as a caldera table on Santorini. Worth doing once, with eyes open, and the card below names the one that holds its rating while doing it.

The beach tavernas are two different worlds. The south coast’s famous beaches eat loud and late. The quieter north - Agios Sostis and its neighbours - keeps the old-style lunch tavernas, including day-only kitchens with no reservations and no electricity, where the queue is part of the meal. If you want the version of Mykonos that predates the party, it is a lunch, not a dinner.

How the places below were chosen. Each card names a real, currently trading place selected by the island’s visitors, not by us: it clears a review-count floor and a rating floor on TripAdvisor or Google, with no contradiction on the other platform, and it carries the date we last checked it. We have not eaten our way around Mykonos, so no card describes a dish - it says what kind of place it is, where it is, and that the people who paid rate it consistently high.

What this page will not do. No prices - on this island more than any other, a printed number would be wrong by the weekend. No club-restaurants and no beach-bed packages; that world is covered from the nightlife page, not from here.

Start at Mykonos for the island, where to stay in Mykonos for the base decision, and Greek food and drink for how menus work.
