It is the island’s quiet base, and the third of the three, alongside Plaka on the hill and Adamas at the port.
What is there
Not much, on purpose. A sheltered beach that suits swimming rather than sunbathing, boats pulled up on the sand, a handful of very good fish tavernas, and a diving school or two.
The village is the sort of place where people book a week and never move the car, which is either the appeal or the problem depending on the trip you wanted.
The Kimolos ferry
A small ferry crosses from Pollonia to Kimolos, the island across the strait, in a short hop. Kimolos is quieter still, with a hilltop village, a couple of beaches and almost no development, and it makes an easy day out that our day trips from Milos page covers properly.
Check the return sailing before you go, because the timetable is small-island sized.
Who it suits
Good for: couples, longer stays, people who want dinner on the water and a swim before breakfast, and divers.
Less good for: anyone without a car who wants to see the island, because Pollonia is the furthest base from the port, the airport and the southern beaches. Where to stay in Milos sets out that trade.

Common questions
What is Pollonia like?
A small, calm seaside village on the north-east tip of Milos, with a sheltered beach, waterfront fish tavernas and rooms rather than large hotels.
Can you get to Kimolos from Pollonia?
Yes, a short ferry crosses the strait, and it is the usual way to visit Kimolos as a day trip.
Is Pollonia a good base on Milos?
It is the quietest of the three bases and the best for eating and swimming, but it is the furthest from the port, the airport and the southern beaches, so a car helps.
Does Pollonia have a good beach?
A small sheltered one, shaded by tamarisks, better for swimming than for a full beach day. The island’s famous beaches are elsewhere.
How far is Pollonia from Adamas?
Roughly twenty minutes by road across the north of the island.
