Above it stands a rock with a monastery on top, and the two together are the reason the name is known beyond the island.
The beach
Shallow, wide and gently shelving, which makes it the east coast’s obvious family beach. It is fully organised in season: loungers, umbrellas, watersports at one end, tavernas behind the sand, and a large car park.
Two practical consequences of that shape. The water stays shallow a long way out, so it warms early and suits children; and the bay is exposed to the prevailing wind, so on a windy day it can be choppier than the sheltered coves further south.
The monastery and the steps
The small monastery on the rock above the bay is reached by a long flight of steps climbing from the road, several hundred of them, with no shade worth the name. It is a genuine pilgrimage site, particularly associated with prayers for children, and it is treated seriously by local visitors.
The view from the top runs the length of the coast, which is the secular reason to climb. Go early or late, take water, and dress respectfully at the chapel: shoulders and knees covered, as anywhere in Greece.
Where it fits
Tsambika sits between the two things most visitors are doing on Rhodes: Rhodes Old Town to the north and Lindos to the south. It is an easy stop on the drive between them, and a common half-day from either.

Practical notes
- Shade is rented. There is very little natural shade on the sand.
- The car park fills by late morning in August.
- The steps are the workout, not the beach. Anyone with knee trouble should treat the climb as optional.
- Facilities are seasonal, so out of season expect the bay and not much else.
