There is one bus, a handful of rooms, and no attempt at anything else.
The villages
The settlement on the ridge is really two joined together. Chorio is the lived-in half, whitewashed lanes around a square with a couple of tavernas. Kastro beside it is the older fortified core, its houses arranged as a defensive ring, with the church of the Pantanassa at the centre.
Above them stands Zoodochos Pigi, a fortified monastery on the crest, abandoned but open, and the walk up to it takes twenty minutes and gives the whole island.
Episkopi
The island’s real curiosity is Episkopi, in the south-west. It began as a Roman mausoleum in the third century, was converted into a church in the Byzantine period, and later had a monastery built around it.
The result is one building carrying all three phases, with the Roman masonry plainly visible in the church walls. It is a walk or a rough drive from the villages, and it is the most interesting single thing on Sikinos.
Wine and terraces
The island is terraced almost everywhere, and its wine tradition has been revived: there is a small estate working the old terraces again. The stone walls holding those terraces are the island’s other landscape, and they are everywhere you look.
The coast
Modest and few. Alopronia, the port, has the main beach, sandy and sheltered. Agios Georgios and Malta are reached by boat or on foot. Nothing is organised.

Ferries on the western Cyclades line from Piraeus and between Ios, Folegandros and Santorini. No airport.
Two nights. Sikinos is a place to walk, eat and stop, and it does not fill more than that unless you want it to.
