Where to eat in Kos

Kos eats in two places above all: the streets of Kos Town, and the mountain village of Zia at sunset. The resort coasts feed their own guests well enough, but when the island’s visitors rate where they actually ate, the same two clusters keep coming out on top, and the cards below follow them.

Kos Town eats along Georgiou Averof and the lanes behind it. The street running behind the harbour carries a run of seafood houses and grills a few doors apart, and the old-town lanes - Apellou, Riga Fereou, the squares between them - hold the tavernas that fill with both visitors and locals. Even Nafklirou, the town’s famous bar lane, keeps one of its most consistently rated kitchens; the island’s evening does not divide as neatly into eating streets and drinking streets as the maps suggest.

Zia is the island’s dinner with a view. The mountain village above the north coast is where Kos goes for the sunset table, and its best-known kitchens are built around that hour: terraces facing west, afternoon openings, and the drive or bus ride back down in the dark as part of the evening. It is the one dinner on Kos worth planning the day around, and the attractions guide covers the village itself.

How the places below were chosen. Each card names a real, currently trading place selected by the island’s visitors, not by us: it clears a review-count floor and a rating floor on TripAdvisor or Google, with no contradiction on the other platform, and it carries the date we last checked it. We have not eaten our way around Kos, so no card describes a dish - it says what kind of place it is, where it is, and that the people who ate there rate it consistently high.

What this page will not do. No prices, which move within a season. And no claim to cover the island: Kardamena, Kefalos, Mastichari and Tigaki eat close to where they sleep, and this round of cards stays with the town and the mountain.

Start at Kos for the island, where to stay in Kos for the base decision, Kos nightlife for the two bar streets, and Greek food and drink for how menus work.
