The village curls round a bay of moored boats and waterfront tables, with a ruined castle on the headland above and small pebble coves within walking distance on both sides.
The castle
The fortress above the village is Byzantine in origin, later held and altered by the Venetians, and it is now a ruin of walls and towers rather than a restored monument. A short path climbs to it from the village.
There is no ticket office and no interpretation to speak of: you walk up, you walk the circuit of the walls where the path allows, and you look down at the strait. Half an hour, and best in the early evening.
The coast around it
The bays either side of the village are pebble rather than sand, small, and clear. Several have loungers and a taverna in season; others are simply a cove at the end of a path. The strait here is sheltered, which makes the water unusually calm, and boat hire from the harbour is a common way to spend a day exploring the coves.
Who it suits

Less good for: anyone who wants a long sandy beach at the door, or nightlife beyond a late drink by the water.
Getting there
Kassiopi is a drive of roughly forty-five minutes to an hour north from Corfu Town on the coast road, and buses run in season. A car makes the coves either side reachable and is the usual choice for this coast.
