What you see
The house is arranged around colonnaded courtyards, with mosaic floors in place and wall surfaces reconstructed to give the rooms their shape. Mosaics show fish, animals and mythological scenes, and some of the finer floors are displayed where they were found.
The reconstruction is modern and clearly so, which is honest: you are seeing the plan and the decoration of a wealthy Roman household rather than an original building.
Allow an hour. It is compact, indoors, and air-conditioned in parts, which makes it the sensible option in the middle of a Kos summer day.
Where it fits in the town
Kos Town keeps its ancient layer in the street, which our things to do in Kos page describes: the agora behind the harbour, the western archaeological zone with its mosaic streets, the restored odeon.
Casa Romana sits opposite that western zone, so the two are one visit. Combine them with Neratzia Castle at the harbour and the Asklepion above the town for a full day of the island’s history.
