The sea bus that runs along the south coast starts here, buses from Mykonos Town arrive here, and hotels and tavernas sit directly behind the sand. If you are staying on this coast without a car, this is the hinge your week turns on.
What the beach is like
Wide, sandy and shallow, with loungers and umbrellas along its length and restaurants immediately behind them. The water shelves gently, which makes it the most straightforward family beach on this side of the island.
It is busy in season and it is not a quiet cove. What it offers instead is convenience: food, shade for rent, water sports, and a boat leaving for the next bay every so often.
The sea bus is the point
From the jetty at one end, small boats run in season along the coast to Paradise, Super Paradise, Elia and other bays. It is cheap, it takes minutes, and it removes the two things that spoil Mykonos beach days: parking and taxis.
The practical plan for a car-free trip: base near Platis Gialos, use the bus to town for the evening and the sea bus for the beaches by day.
Who it suits
Good for: families, first visits, anyone without a car, and anyone who wants to sample several beaches in a week.
Less good for: people looking for an empty stretch of sand, and anyone who dislikes rows of loungers.
If you want polish, Psarou is the next bay along and a different price bracket entirely.
