There is no bank, the shop is small, and the electricity and water are the sort of thing residents discuss. That is the accurate picture, and people who want it want it precisely.
The two settlements
Agios Georgios, the port, is where almost everything is: a bay, a beach, a handful of tavernas and rooms, and the ferry quay.
Panagia, the old village inland and uphill, is largely empty for most of the year and comes alive around its festival in August. The walk up takes about an hour on an old path.
The cave
The island’s one named sight is the cave of Agios Ioannis, in the south. It is large, with stalactites and several chambers, and it is unlit and unmanaged: there is a chapel at the entrance, and a torch is not optional.
Getting there is a walk of a couple of hours from the port, or a shorter one from the road end. The path is marked but rough, exposed and hot in summer, and there is no water on the way. We are describing ground rather than certifying it: an unlit cave and a two-hour walk in Cycladic heat are both things to plan for rather than improvise.
Beaches
Livadi, a broad sandy bay a walk from the port, is the good one. Tourkopigado and others take more effort. None is organised and there is no shade beyond what you bring.

Ferries from Naxos and along the Small Cyclades chain via Schinoussa and Koufonisia. No airport.
Two nights. Iraklia is the island in the group with the least to do, which for some visitors is the entire specification.
