What is up there
A short steep path and steps climb from the parking area to the walls. Inside are the remains of the Knights’ outpost, a small whitewashed chapel still in use, and cisterns cut into the rock.
The reason to climb is the position. The crag drops away on every side and the view runs down the coast and out to the islet of Alimia. There are no railings on much of it, and the edges are real.
That is worth stating plainly rather than dressing up: this is not a managed monument with barriers and signage. Keep children close, watch your footing, and stay away from the edges in strong wind.
Getting there
Monolithos is roughly ninety minutes from Rhodes Town down the west coast, past Kamiros, through the quiet south-west of the island. The village of Monolithos is below the castle, and the road continues down to the beach at Fourni.
It is a drive for people who want the empty half of Rhodes. Combine it with the west-coast sites for a full day, and eat in the village rather than expecting anything at the rock.

- Free to enter, with no gate and no hours, though that can change.
- Shoes with grip: the steps and the rock are polished by use.
- Sunset is the best hour and the most exposed one.
- No facilities at the castle itself.
